Purchasing Manager

Location: Greensboro, NC

Position Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will place purchase orders for finished and raw materials, maintain proper inventory levels, and aid in developing and maintaining successful vendor relationships. They will also manage staff in the day to day performance in their jobs and ensure that department goals are met and adhering to approved budgets

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the analysis of inventory levels and sales trends to effectively determine purchase quantities, and prepares purchase orders accordingly.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements forecasting processes and systems to meet company goals and reduce costs.
  • Reviews and maintains inventory levels to maximize inventory turnover and to minimize backorders.
  • Collaborates with other departments to effectively and timely resolve issues of quantity, quality, and freight.
  • Develops business relationships with existing and new vendors to optimize on pricing, terms, and delivery.
  • Verifies vendor acknowledgements of purchase orders to ensure timely receipt.
  • Drives purchasing initiatives for product lines to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Identifies, evaluates and develops purchasing policies and procedures to ensure best practices.
  • Reviews and resolves backorders with vendors.
  • Assists in vendor chargebacks for quality or backorder issues.
  • Requests quotes for new items for the most cost-effective purchase.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Primary Contacts (outside dept.)

  • Receiving, Inventory Control, Accounting, Quality Control, and vendors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, directs and trains Agents

Travel:

  • Annual conference participation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Five plus years experience in purchasing, vendor relationships, and sales and inventory analysis.
  • Management experience necessary
  • Or combination of equivalent experience, education, and training.

Skills:

  • Proficient use of MS Office Products and purchasing software systems.
  • Moderate to above moderate levels of English writing, speaking, and reading comprehension; active listening; mathematics; negotiations; monitoring; analysis; judgment; and troubleshooting.
  • Bilingual abilities in Mandarin or Spanish are a plus

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Intermittently lift, carry, pull, and push up to 20 pounds.
  • Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Frequently hear and talk.
  • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
  • Exposure to electrical equipment, low noise levels, and mild indoor temperatures of hot and cold.
  • Long or odd hours, as needed.
  • Continual use of computer.
