Senior Controller

Location: Greensboro, NC

Market America, a Global Product Brokerage and Internet Marketing company that specializes in One-to-One Marketing is seeking an experience Senior Controller. 

The Senior Controller is primarily responsible for implementing and testing appropriate controls to ensure compliance with accounting processes.  The Senior Controller is also responsible for budgeting, analyzing data, and record-keeping, as well as financial reporting to higher management.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures and validates that all proper controls and procedures are in place for transactions in the areas of accounting, finance, tax and international/global transactions in order to maintain adequate accounting processes, policies and internal controls to ensure complete, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Analyzes, recommends and implements improvements to ensure the integrity of internal financial controls in conjunction with executive management and outside auditors to accommodate significant growth.
  • Generates monthly consolidated financial reporting which is accurate, timely and usable for all Market America entities as well as all separate reporting for related party LLC’s, properties, and yachts.
  • Creates and adapts cash forecasting models
  • Reviews with owner key financial issues that directly impact the owner’s personal financials inclusive of related party LLC’s, owner’s expenses that need to be reimbursed to the business, and all deductible / non-deductible income tax items.
  • Performs and directs treasury functions within the company specifically including international cash management, banking relationships, and alternate payment processor relationships.
  • Manages stand-alone audits of both domestic and international entities by independent accounting firms.
  • Prepares the annual budget
  • At the direction of the Executive Team, analyzes financial impact of major business decisions and operational issues affecting the business and issue timely reports as required.
  • With the legal team, recommends the appropriate structure of new business entities the company intends to create or acquire.
  • With the IT team, ensures appropriate financial management technology platforms and systems are in place to sustain and expand a growth-oriented business.
  • Participates with purchasing team to minimize back order situations.  Alerts executive team to potential inventory issues in sufficient time to react.
  • Works directly with inventory control manager to oversee inventory levels and inventory control.
  • Demonstrates good interdepartmental relationships, as well as liaisons with suppliers and overseas agents, makes customers and their needs a primary function of one’s action and decisions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to employ a range of different techniques to coach, lead and develop staff, links employee development to individual organization objectives.
  • Shows initiative when handling problems, ensures issues are resolved in a timely and appropriate manner, and implements measures to eradicate identified weaknesses in order to refine and improve processes to internal and external customers.

  • Executive team, Purchasing, Inventory Control, IT, outside vendors, governmental entities.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises a staff of 15+


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Ten plus years of experience in controllership roles.



  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to personally review detail level transactions.
  • Proficient use of MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with Dynamics Accounting program.
  • High levels of English reading comprehension, writing, and speaking; active listening, critical thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting, reasoning, judgment, analysis, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Exposure to Asian markets and cultures
  • Experience with foreign currency and banking outside of the US
  • Experience with interacting with External Auditors (Financials and Tax), both in the US and foreign markets

  • Intermittently lift, carry, pull, and push up to 20 pounds.

  • Frequently hear, talk, sit, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Occasionally stand.
  • Intermittently stoop/bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk on level and uneven surfaces, climb stairs and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, and squeeze.
  • Exposure to electrical equipment and moderate indoor temperatures.
  • Constant use of computer.
  • Occasional long or odd hours.
